About Preservation of the Egyptian Theatre (P.E.T.)
Current Projects
Over 25 years have passed since the last major renovation of the Egyptian Theatre started back in 1980. Now, many of the key structural elements of the building need to be replaced or repaired once again. It is time for another rebuilding of the theatre. In the late 70s, Preservation of the Egyptian Theatre (P.E.T.) formed to save the theatre from destruction. Once again, P.E.T. is here to address the issues that affect this jewel of DeKalb.
Some of the major projects that will be addressed in the next few years include:
- Replacing the roof over the auditorium
- Repairing decorative plaster and paint work inside the lobby and auditorium
- Replacing the seats on the main floor
- Repairing electrical and plumbing issues
- Replacing stage lighting and sound systems
- Renovating the concessions stand and main restrooms
- Adding Air Conditioning
This list is daunting and is only a portion of what needs to be done; there is a lot of work ahead of us. There is nearly $1.5 Million in projects that need to be accomplished in the next few years. We need your help more than ever. If you have time, sign up as a volunteer. And if you can, please give your financial support to help preserve the Egyptian Theatre so that future generations can enjoy this historic beauty, too.
There will be a lot happening at the theatre in the next few years. We ask for you support, encouragement and understanding as we move forward.
As always your financial contributions are tax deductible.
